You do everything right. A couple of hours later, it's back.
It's the same shape for almost everyone. You do everything right, and a couple of hours after you brush, it's back. A film on your tongue by mid-morning. A taste no rinse touches. A partner who asks if you've had coffee when you haven't.
Maybe it crept in slowly. Maybe it followed an illness or a stressful stretch. Either way, you have tried to out-clean it. You brush, floss, scrape and rinse, and keep mints in every pocket. You've even seen a second dentist, who says your teeth are fine, which somehow makes it worse. If my teeth are fine, then what is it?
You've organised your whole day around a smell you cannot even see.
Underneath it all is the part nobody says out loud. The calculation. The half step back in conversations. The "I'll just check" before you lean in. There is a reason none of it worked, and it is not the one you think.
